In contemporary society, it is good to create single-sex schools for students. Meanwhile many critics believe that attending mixed schools brings more advantages for boys and girls. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the latter, because mixed schools provide pupils with empathy development, and a diversity of culture as well as social knowledge.
On the one hand, all-boys or all-girls schools can restrain the risk of violence or sex harassment, and remove students’ distraction. To begin with, single-sex schools can reduce the level of violence, and harassment among pupils. The youngsters, who study with peers of the same sex, often live in perfect harmony, because they tend to have interests, and ideas in common. Therefore, students can easily understand their friends, preventing them from conflicts. Moreover, learning in separate schools can derive students from distraction. As they can spend more or less inconsiderable time competing for the attention of those of the opposite sex, they can pay more attention to academic lessons to improve their scores, and achievement.
On the other hand, co-ed schooling has more significant effects on students, which are an empathy boost, and a diverse culture. First, the variety of genders can create many emotions that require students to empathize, and understand. Learning to capture the feelings of many peers, which helps them easier to show off opinions, bolsters not only their benevolence but also their communication skills. In terms of culture, large groups of mixed-gender people can build up a huge amount of social knowledge consisting of various cultures. The abundant cultures of kids receiving and sharing with their friends can broaden their horizons to make sure that they do not have social awkwardness in life.
In conclusion, although mixed-gender schools can limit the level of violence or sex harassment and remove distraction of learners, I am strongly convinced that co-ed schools are more ideal, because of empathy, and cultural diversity.
