In the era of modern technology, demand of overseas movies and television shows is increasing rapidly. Many people believe that presenting external movies and TV content can be beneficial for the country’s culture whereas, other opine that using locally produced is more significant. In this essay, I will disscuss both views and give my opinion at the end.
Proponents of showing imported overseas films and tv content highlight two primary reasons. Firslty, exposure of international media helps people to learn about other culture and broaden their perspectives. Watching movies and shows introduce them witih new ideas, lifestyles, and languages, promoting cultural diversity and understanding. For example, popular American and Korean tv show have introduced the global audience with the new genre and story telling style, which can inspire to do more creative work. Moreover, it opens the new door of economy by creating new job sector. For example, voice artist who gives their voice to convert the foreign language to the local language.
On the other hand some argue that focusing on local media is essential to preserve the uniqueness of the country and promote the country culture and identity. While people see locally produced content, they can relate easily and learn effectively about their tradition. This is particularly important in smaller or less globally dominant cultures, where local content can reinforce cultural pride and ensure that future generations stay connected to their heritage. For instance, countries like India have a strong film industry that produces movies in multiple languages, helping to preserve linguistic and cultural diversity within the country.
In my opinion, while there are benefits to both approaches, it is important for countries to strike a balance between foreign and local content. Imported films and TV shows can enrich a nation’s culture by introducing new ideas, but local productions are crucial for maintaining cultural identity. Therefore, governments and media organizations should support both local content creation and the import of quality foreign programs to create a diverse media landscape.
