It is thought that paying for large pieces of art, like sculpture, to be on public display in outdoor areas is necessary. Personally, I agree with this statement for some viable reasons.
On the one hand, there are some disadvantages when showing large pieces of art in outdoor areas. When governments are facing many challenges that are more critical than raising the awareness of people about art, such as environmental issues and economic downturns, it is likely difficult to invest in a field which is not sure whether it brings about benefits. Furthermore, not everyone can deeply understand the meaning of pieces of art, therefore, the investment from governments may not vital. Instead of the help from governments, artists can call for support by themselves from some corporations who are interested in art field. For instance, some commercially successful artists may take advantage of trends to find out some help from social networks where many individuals share their interests and have same passions to organize several exhibitions.
However, displaying pieces of art in public areas also has some benefits. At the time when many residents in the world tend to become global citizens, the identity of culture is on the verge of danger. Pieces of art, as a result, play an important role in strengthening these identities by showing the deep values which exist in skillfully-made products. The Vietnamese government, for example, has just released one site that is National Military Museum. This location not only provides valuable stories in the past during the war time, but it also strengthens the patriotism in Vietnamese people. In addition, when pieces of art are presented in public areas, they are more likely to be sponsored by many companies, creating higher incomes for artists and reducing the investment from authorities.
In conclusion, although paying for large pieces could be risky at first, its advantages are likely to exist in the near future. I believe that large pieces of art should be put on more attention from governments and paid well to be displayed in outdoor areas.
