One school of thought holds that museums should be entertaining to make people enjoy. Whereas others think that educational is the priority of the museums. While two views offer merits I believe that both education and entertainment should be involved in museums.
A group of individuals assume that : “the main purpose of museums is to preserve artefacts and educate residents”. According to their theory, it is enough for museums to educate people through preservative exhibit. Thus, visitors must look up informations of the object they are interested in on their own. However, this way of approach has some limitations because individuals who look through the specimens can barely recall anything after getting out the building. Since human brains are stimulated via appealing patterns and details, entertaining could improve our memory retation. As an illustration, we seldom recall any specific memory from a particular event due to its tediousness. In contrast, special eves which envolve entertainment are likely to leave a deep impression un the mind of the visitors, facilitating them remembering those moments clearly.
Other groups argue that : “museums is a sacred place to spread culture value and national identity, not a place for entertainment”. Based on their presumption. People afraid that if museums becom entertaining then it is nothing but an amusement and hardly will any traditional value be spread. Nevertheless, this not true as entertainment is a crucial factor to attract visitors to come to museums and learn about them. By providing forms of entertainment museums will catch more attention from the public. This result in the fully aware of the historical values of the society.
In a nutshell, education is still the main purpose of museums; nevertheless, just education is not enough. To offer the best result to the society entertainment also need to be taken into account. With the combination of education and entertainment museum will reach its full potential and benefit a lot to the society.
