Band 7+: Some people think that museums should be free for everyone, while others believe that visitors should pay to enter. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The public debate revolves around the process of making museums free of admission fees. Some people insist that museums should not be free to maintain historical artifacts and prevent overcrowding, while others disagree and believe that museums need to be accessible for all to promote education and cultural awareness. I, however, strongly support the letter view.

On the one hand, there are several arguments why some people think that museums should charge entry fees. Firstly, museums need funds for maintenance, new exhibitions, and staff salaries; without admission fees, it will be challenging for museums to preserve artifacts for the future generation. Moreover, gathered funds can be redirected to enhancements of facilities within museums. For example, museums can invest in better displays, interactive experiences, and expert curation. Finally, entry fees can serve as an obstacle to prevent overcrowding, making it enjoyable for visitors to visit museums.

I, however, believe that museums ought to serve everyone without entry fees. Making museums free can promote education and cultural understanding; they are valuable educational resources that help people learn about history, art, and science. Additionally, free entrance attracts more people, including low-income students and people who live paycheck to paycheck, allowing millions to explore human history without financial barriers. Furthermore, free museums can increase tourism volume; this, in turn, enhances the local economy by supporting cafes, hotels, and retail shops. From a financial standpoint, museums can be subsidized by local government, or they can receive philanthropic support instead of charging visitors.

In conclusion, while entry fees help with maintenance and crowd control, museums should be free to promote education and inclusivity. Government subsidies and donations can provide financial support, ensuring accessibility for all. Free museums enrich society by fostering cultural awareness and boosting local economies.
