There are two opposite opinions about the style of new-built houses in the local area. Some people believe that new houses should look similar to the old ones, while others argue and insist on the opportunity to build houses in their own style. I will try to describe both views in this essay and explain, why the second view is more attractive to me.
Some local areas might have a historical value and only in this situation it could have been reasonable to preserve an architectural look of the particular place. However, it should not mean that people should not be allowed to make their own design of new housings. It should only restict big changes in the view of the old ones, because it is not fair to people who are planning to live there, it concerns their human rights. Moreover, there are other reasons for people to make their style of new houses.
Besides fairness, people’s psychological health could be improved if local authorities allowed the locals to use their own design of their new houses. Mental health depends on the environment people live in, and if it does not satisfy their expectations, this might lead to frustration and stress. For example, if somebody dreamt about living in a specific area and having a definite look of their accomodation, but they were not allowed to do this in their way, those people would be more likely disappointed and could live the area. And thus, additionaly, the area would be less attractive for living, so it is much better to allow people to build their houses as they want to.
In conclusion, the restrictions on the style of new houses in the most areas should not be applied to locals, because of human rights and the affect on their mental health. Aforementioned reasons are sufficient for my opinion on the matter, which is that I almost fully support the idea of building new houses in the style chosen by the locals themselves.
