Some individuals argue that high school children should deeply study a small number of subjects, whereas others believe that they should study many subjects to learn more. While some parents think that studying more subjects helps children to have better general knowledge, I believe that focusing on a smaller range of subjects helps highschoolers in their future careers.
On the one hand, studying a wider range of subjects will mean that they will know almost everything about the world. This means that they will have the chance to try everything and that helps them to learn their true talents. For example, a student would believe math is their strongest subject, but math is used in many other subjects, so when he studies other subjects like calculus and astronomy, he may find them more appealing.
On the other hand, studying fewer subjects benefits students by making them ready for a university or even entering adult life. Because of this, they will have more knowledge than their peers, which will benefit them when applying for a job. For example, Google’s high school makes children choose the subjects they want to study during high school; though there are some compulsory subjects, this method has been proven to be very effective, since most of the graduates have successfully found their ideal occupation in a short amount of time.
In conclusion, while some parents believe that their offspring should study a large number of subjects to gain more knowledge, from my point of view studying a smaller number of subjects benefits older school students more, since they can focus more on the subjects they actually need.
