As technology is increasing rapidly, many individuals think that public libraries are no longer needed. This is because vast resources are available on internet and there are also huge changes made in study lifestyle. At the same time, libraries provide discussion, knowledge sharing and less distractions. This essay will double-edged views on Importance of public libraries followed by an opinion.
On one hand, many alternative resources such as ebooks and pdfs are available on internet. As almost every one in this world are connected to internet there is a big pool of resources on internet which can be accessed anywhere easily on fingertips at free of cost. This saves time, effort and money. Additionally, There are huge changes made in student study lifestyle. Most of the public library users are students but nowadays students are using tablets and laptops to study instead of books. They are watching 3D animated videos instead of reading books for better understanding of concept. This makes libraries less usefull.
On the other hand, libraries provide many benefits such as discussion and knowledge sharing. In libraries many people come as a group to study different topics and explain each other making combined progress. Additionally, libraries are less distarctive. As there is no one disturbing and also libraries maintain pindrop silence making it ideal for studying.
In my opinion, If a person is serious about reading and learning I think it doen’t make any difference to him as he can still study perfectly online anywhere and anytime saving him huge time, resources and effort. Many Employees don’t have time to go to libraries and carry books. So I think libraries are no longer needed.
In conclusion, as many resources are available online which can be accessed anywhere and anytime and also nowadays no one are prefering libraries I think public libraries are no longer important. But at the same time libraries provide knowlegde sharing and less distractions ideal for some people who prefer study environment.
