There are a lot of people at the school think teaching academic would be good than particle skills because when students still high school or before goes to university, academic is essential because all of the school using report card score for enrollment, not just only for high school, even for the other categories like junior high school or enroll universities need report card score for accepting their students and measure students intelligence for give the best for the institute to be prestigious institute. Academics not only study math, language. But, academics study everything what students need for the future, like when some students wanna be doctor someday, they can be focuse for the academic especially biology. But when students wanna be doctor they can’t study practical skills, such as cooking or managing money.
On the other hand, some believe practical skills is essential as well to develop skills be more younger than someone who focus academic first, that’s way there are a lot of vocational school in Indonesia for students who wanna work first after graduated vocational school, and doesn’t need college for shape skills for industry, vocational school can earn a salary be faster than someone who focus into academic first.
In conclusion, both categories is depends on the urgent need, when you need to earn money be faster because family economy need backup for financial, learn practical skills be more important than study academic, but if someone need more knowledge and good connections for the future, focus academic should be prioritized.
