Band 6+: Some people think that shops should not be allowed to sell any food or drink that has scientifically been proven to have bad effects on people's health

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some individuals claim that food and beverages that have scientific proof to inflict damage upon consumers’ health should be prohibited from being sold. Personally, I partly agree with this suggestion base on some reasons that are provided in this essay.

In this day and age, the widespread availability of fast food and high-calorie beverages has posed severe damage to the public’s health. As they have increased the rate of cardiovascular diseases and obesity that threaten the stability of society. Not only would our healthcare system have to withstand insane pressure, but the overall productivity would also decline. So these harmful products should be banned to ensure the well-being of the community.

In the flip side, this disruption of food manufacturing can take away the jobs of countless individuals, which leads to chaos in society. The food production in many countries, especially developed nations, has been a major sector in the economic development and is the working field for many workers, contributing to the livelihood of millions of people. Since the number of foods and drinks that can be harmful to people’s health is extremely massive, banning all of them would elevate the rate of unemployment, poverty, and social chaos, causing widespread disruptions that can not be controlled.

In conclusion, while prohibiting these harmful foods and drinks away from consumers can bring a potential benefit to the social well-being, it should be selectively applied due to the hidden detrimental impact on the economy. I strongly believe that this measure can be highly effective, if they slowly proceed to make time for businesses and manufactors to adjust to this change.
