Adverts seem to be an integral part of marketing methods that contribute to sales. Although some assert that advertisement is a useful set of information about products’ properties, I am convinced that adverts have influence on our purchases. As both views have some ground, both viewpoints will be discussed in this essay.
On the one hand, advertisements serve as a valuable source of information that contribute to informed decision-making.Thus, via providing information about products’ features, feasibilities, pricing, they enable consumers to compare various products mindfully, relying on their properties, and make better-informed choices. If there were no ads, it would be much harder for people to find information about key features of brand products.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that some advertisements are designed to manipulate consumers’ behaviour, leading those to make impulsive purchases. Psychological triggers, to be exact, used in such adverts to make one buy a certain product. Various marketing methods: vibrant imageries, catchy slogans or even worldwide idols are exploited to create an urge to obtain that product, neglecting rational thinking. Not only can this be possible for youngsters, but adults also tend to purchase impulsively unnecessary products under the impact of advertisements. Therefore, some advertisements may have a significant impact on people’s buy choices.
In conclusion, although advertisements can provide vital information about certain product, I believe that they mostly serve to influence one’s purchase habits, manipulating to buy the certain product.
