People nowadays are at loggerheads over what is the optimal solution to enhance road transport safety, with some people suggesting that an annual examination of all the drivers could be the panacea. In my view, simply enabling vehicles’ drivers to take tests on a yearly basis is obviously not sufficient.
First and foremost, letting the driver test each year could only allow one to understand theoretical knowledge, whereas a safe and sound road trip requires beyond it. Specifically, these exam-oriented procedures examine people’s knowledge towards driving in a rough and general way, such as asking candidates about distinct traffic rules and the corresponding punishment when breaking these laws, without meticulously verifying individuals’ driving techniques and instilling hands-on experiences in people. These factors, alongside people’s concentration levels, sharp and clear minds, are essential to securing people’s safety when driving, let alone the fact that there is a high incidence of cheating during exams.
Moreover, the facts that overemphasizing on paper certificates would lead to serious counterproductive effects, indicates that it could not be served as a great method to improve the safety of transportation. Take the case of one of my friends, Jay, who passed his driving license’s exam and could not wait to drive immediately at that time, as a result, not only had this test indirectly enabled him to feel over confident and made several mistakes when driving, but such an incident also enabled him to pay a prohibitively expensive price for injuries caused by this car crash. Had it not been for using exams to measure a person’s driving skill, he would never have been able to suffer a substantial amount of torture and excruciation.
In conclusion, my view is that although testing could remind drivers of some knowledge regarding driving an automobile, it is definitely not the best method to control road traffic accidents and then enhance safety.
