It is argued that imposing policies involving annual driver tests is the most effective way to ensure residents’ commuting safety. In my opinion, although this can improve significant road security, I believe that there are some more practical solutions.
It is understandable that the compulsory driver tests for inhabitants can enhance overall road security. Because tremendous traffic collisions these days occur due to residents’ disobedience and inaccurate adaptation of traffic regulations, the regular driver tests can be suitable opportunities for people to consolidate their skills and knowledge related to traffic rules.Therefore, through these tests, traffic participants would be well-equipped with essential skills to commute more safely. Moreover, consistent driver checks can help authorities and governments realize the deficiency in commuters’ driving and the regular faults that they may encounter. Therefore, they can have appropriate programmes to improve their driving skills or construct additional traffic infrastructure facilitating daily commuting.
However, there are several efficient policies that the government can consider to ameliorate recent traffic security. The foremost measure is that they should impose heavier punishments. For some situations where commuters disobey the traffic regulation, leading to serious accidents, authorities should have compatible punishment. As a result, people will be more cautious when participating in traffic to avoid being fined a substantial amount of money or even being convicted. Another practical solution is to hold some traffic programmes to raise awareness of residents. People will have chances to be instilled with the importance of complying with traffic rules or the dire consequences due to accidents. For example, some schools in Vietnam have organized some extracurricular activities to help students learn and be exposed to traffic regulations to guarantee that they participate in traffic safely and responsibly.
In conclusion, although taking driver tests each year can be beneficial for people to prevent traffic faults, some suggested solutions including stricter penalisation and educational programmes can be implemented to improve road security.
