Rapidely increasing traffic is a big concern for road safety in modern era. While few individuals assert that offical age to drive should be increased, and others say that better solutions should be implemented. This essay will highlight benefits of increasing age limit and what other steps can be taken although I think a combination of both aspects will be best.
To begin, most of the nations have 18 years of minimum legal age for a person to drive, at this age driver do not have enough of experience to handle densely populated road conditions. As a result, young drivers causes a concern on the road, even they can indulge in accidents. Therefore, increasing the age can be very benefical for people to gain some experience before start driving on the highways. For example, in India, before 2015 legal age to drive was 18 years but now it is changed to 22 years, which has drastically decreased the road accidents.
On the other hand, steps such as decreasing speed limit, using more pedestrains near schools and residential areas could help to mitigate road issues because some of the major incidents happen around these areas. Moreover, introducing traffic lights to provide a direction to the traffic will benefit from congestions and mishappenings on the road. For example, as developed nations have well developed traffic control system, they have lesser road accidents compared to developing countries.
In conclusion, I think changing official age could be helpful upto some extent; however, to improve the highway safety, other steps should also be taken. These measures includes assessing speed limits, building footpaths and traffic signals.
