Band 5+: Some people think that the government has the duty to ensure its citizens to have a healthy diet, while others argue it is the responsibility of each individual. Discuss both views and give your opinion?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, eating habits have become an on-going controversy between global citizens, which has led to two schools of thought while some people believe that the government is responsible for making sure that their citizens all have a healthy diet, others think that it is up to each individual. This essay will closely elaborate on both sides of the phenomenon and provide my personal stance.

On the one hand, it is understandable why some people endorse the former view. Nowadays, the percentage of people who encounter heart problems, stroke or even obesity is increasing, making many government at some countries have to impose tax higher, or promote the drawbacks fast food advertisements, this will help people people less craving for unhealthy food. This has changed people’s thoughts about what they have consumed, they will be more inclined to eat less fried food, and using more sources that are high in fiber, protein. As a result, not only can this assist people encounter less food-related disease like obesity, or cardiovascular problems, but it can also help the government to reduce the bargain in healthcare fields to tackle this. Hence, it is undeniable that the positive influence of government to alleviate societal health.

On the other hand, I side with the latter view due to individuals’ different genetic traits. It is obvious that everyone is different from each other, some people can easily gain weight even if they eat little while others can find it difficult to do the same thing, so they will need to find alternative sources of food that benefit their health. Once they get the food that does not fit with their health conditions, they may deal with the fatalities that may appear immediately after consuming. As a result, it is up to us to decide whether this food suits us or not. Therefore, it is irrefutable that people’s own choice is the most suitable option to have a healthy diet.

To conclude, even though we can not disagree with the influence of the government related to this particular field, self-decision is eminent owing to the differences between each people.
