People hold differing views about whether some people believe governments have a duty to protect public health, while others argue that individuals should take responsibility for their own diets. While both perspectives have their merits, I believe that the individuals need to have healthy eating habits.
On the one hand, there are two main reasons why some people believe that the governments have a duty to ensure a healthy diet of citizens. First and foremost, the governments, who allocate budget and address social issues, can implement effective regulation for residents. This is because nowadays the widespread consumption of ultra-processed foods and food additives may contribute to serious health problems. For example, the government can tax junk food to encourage citizens to choose better foods for their well-being. Furthermore, the authorities can raise awareness of healthcare to bring benefits for society. When better healthcare can reduce financial burden for families and support economic development.
On the other hand, proponents of the responsibility of each individual argue that it plays an essential role in healthcare, which I find more convincing for several reasons. The primary reason is that individuals have different needs regarding their health conditions. For example, they require eating food rich in fiber; however, others need more protein to maintain good health. Therefore, people have their own right to choose what kinds of food are good for their well-being. Equally important, citizens can make informed dietary choices without controlling people’s diets directly from the governments. If the authorities regulate an individual’s diet, they will not be satisfied and suitable. Residents should have a suitable diet with pathological conditions like obesity, diabetes and heart disease to develop healthy eating habits. For these reasons, I believe that citizens take responsibility for their own diets.
In conclusion, although the governments have a duty to ensure that citizens have a healthy diet, l believe that individuals take responsibility for their health by controlling eating habits.
