Some people believe that the main purpose of school and university education should be to prepare people for work. Others, however, think that the true role of education is to make us better citizens. This essay will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
On the one hand, many individuals argue that schools and universities should teach students the skills needed to work in different fields. There are several reasons for this view. Jobs such as doctors and engineers are crucial for society because they help people in difficult situations. Moreover, many countries nowadays suffer from high unemployment, and education can help reduce this problem by preparing students for the job market. For example, Africa needs more hospitals with qualified experts, and well-educated professionals can improve living conditions and support the community.
On the other hand, others believe that the main purpose of education is to create responsible and ethical citizens. People who have high university qualifications are not truly valuable to society if they lack morals and do not work conscientiously. For instance, a doctor may work in a famous hospital, but if he treats patients badly and without respect, his education loses its true value. Therefore, education should focus not only on academic knowledge but also on teaching ethics, responsibility, and respect for others.
In conclusion, while preparing students for work is an important role of education, I believe that teaching morals and values is even more crucial. Education should aim to produce better citizens who can cooperate with others, reduce hatred, and contribute positively to society.
