Road accident causes a lot of injuries and death everyday. Many people claim punishments for offenders who cause accidents should be harsher in order to improve road safety. Others say alternative solutions such as enhancing the safety measures for cars and improved pedestrian routes are more suitable. I believe harsher punishments would me more effective in this matter. There is no doubt that alternative solutions can improve road safety and should be implemented in our urban civilian life however risking such accidents is not worth it.
Everyday millions of people use some sort of vehicle for mobilty. Especially since urban population has increased beyond expectations during last century cars became a daily part of our lives. However ongoing flow of fast metal machinery in such crowded environment proposes danger for everyone. One little distraction can bring end to multiple lives. Therefore we must focus on no mistake policy for drivers. Unintentional accidents can happen however we shouldn’t let drunk drivers or speed addicts to have license. When offenders caught violating traffic rules their license should be taken and they have to be fined huge amounts or even imprisoned. As I mentioned before one little mistake can cause loss of a family and we shouldn’t wait until it becomes too late to take preventative action.
On the other hand alternative solutions such as improved cars can help reduce chance of the unintentional accidents happening. Also it is crucial to improve pedestrian route in todays cosmopolitan cities with heavy traffic. Such measures should act as complimentary action in order to reduce road accidents but our main goal should be giving harsher punishments and no second chances to reckless drivers.
In conclusion I, as someone who lives in an extremely crowded city, support harsher punishments. I would want to held responsible if I ever cause an accident.
