There is a growing trend where more and more people are worrying about the adverse influences of the internet. While this can pose some challenges, particularly distracting students from studying, I find it mostly advantageous, as people can access to higher-education and it is an activity which helps people to relax.
One very compelling reason why I believe the internet has more benefits is that it allows people to access higher-education. This is because, there are a number of websites and channels now which assist students to learn additional languages or cover the lessons that they did not attend in formal education. Take Duolingo application as an example, it provides several cartoons and online games which engage students to learn more vocabularies and grammatical structures. Consequently, the internet creates an opportunity of getting a certification in certain language such as IELTS and then they can travel or work in different parts of the world. Moreover, nowadays more people allocate their most of the time for working so watching short reels may help them to relax. This is because, after a tough day, social media platforms provide videos that most of the people like. Take Instagram as an example, it provides short-reels or videos according to the personal interest. As a result, it allows people to forget about all the stressful situations and problems of the day.
On the other hand, high proportion of people are being distracted by social media platforms. This is because, it gives them a chance of keeping in touch with their friends and classmates by sending videos or emojis rather than concentrating more on studies. For instance, modern social platforms especially YouTube encourages them to watch videos and shorts instead of studying. As a consequence, it can lead to poor education and increase in the number of people who are uneducated.
In conclusion, although the internet is quite disruptive, particularly while doing homework or studying, it seems to me that it has more benefits, as it allows people to forget issues and provide useful content such as educational videos.
