In contemporary society, the debate surrounding movies and video games featuring violence has intensified. While some individuals advocate for a prohibition on such entertainment, asserting that it poses risks, others argue that these mediums are simply a means of relaxation. In my perspective, the potential adverse effects of violent entertainment, particularly the increase in aggressive behavior, warrant the prohibition of such content.
Granted, exposure to violent films and video games has been linked to heightened levels of aggressive behaviours. Numerous studies have indicated that indulging in violence can contribute to an increase in hostile behavior. These mediums often provide a platform for individuals to learn and simulate aggressive solutions to conflict situations. Moreover, prolonged exposure to violent content can have detrimental effects on the mindset of individuals, particularly children and adolescents who are still in the process of developing cognitive and emotional regulation skills.
Conversely, many people contend that they have rights to enjoy violent types of entertainment. They argue that adults are capable of distinguishing between fiction and reality. They view these forms of entertainment as an outlet for stress relief.Consumming violent media and video games, just like other activities in free-time such as reading books or listening to music.
To sum up, the disadvantages of violent entertainment outweigh the advantages. It is true that we have the freedom to consume these types of films and video games but their adverse impacts are out of control. Hence, they should be banned or censored strictly.
