There is cosiderable debate over whether the housing should be made free by the government or individuals should build thier own. While, free housing may help poor and homeless people and provide secure and safe place for the citizens, it can put additional financial burden on the government. It may not also be ideal to give this benefit to every citizens, rather I believer that it should be given to only those who are in need.
On the one hand, suppoters of government-funded housing emphasize that it can be beneficial for the people in the country. Firstly, it can solve the major problems relating to homelessness. For instance, people having lower income who can barely afford to build a house by themselves can actually own a house. It may eventually reduce the growth rate of homelessness. Secondly, government-funded houses usually are made out of quality materials and with proper structure. It provides the house owners the sense of safety and security.
On the other hand, people who oppose this idea contend that it is not practical to implement this idea. While, building a house is an expensive thing in itself, building it for every citizens would put additional financial pressure on the state. Moreover, not all the citizens need the funding from the authorities as people having good level of income can afford thier own house. Also, rich individuals can invest thier own money so that they can select the design and size of the buildings.
Overall, although free housing can help those who cannot afford it, it may give hard time for the government to sponser all the citizens regarding housing. So, In my viewpoint, individuals who can afford must build thier own house while government should support those who have lower income level.
