Over the past few decades, while a fragment of society claims that people should design their house to follow the same style with existing houses in the same premises, some people believe that resident’s accommodation should be built based on the owner’s preference. Both sides of this debate obtain their own merits, yet I am more convinced with the latter view.
To commence with the reasons why building in the similarity area should be built in the same way. Firstly, if the houses look similar, it will create the exclusive identity and aesthetic unity of this region. Take Hoi An Ancient town for example, almost all the houses in this area are painted with the same color, or have a similar roof structure, or are even built with similar materials. By doing so, the town can maintain its cultural heritage and original atmosphere of ancient dwellers, which in turn helps the locals aware of their identity and tourism to flourish. Secondly, constructing the same houses will help local authorities supervise the process of construction easily, and to make sure that these buildings are safe for both the inhabitants and neighbours.
On the other hand, I strongly agree that hosts should be given permission to choose their house’s style freely. This is because a house reflects the owner’s distinctive artistic taste and personal identity so living in a house that they feel comfortable will inspire them to take care of their homes as well as the landscape around the residential area leading to better living conditions. Moreover, unlike a new house with modern style, a classical house tends to not be suitable nowadays, for example, lack of a swimming pool, so a house with personal design could meet the best of their needs.
In conclusion, although many benefits of adopting the traditional houses, I completely agree that people have a right to live an ideal house they aspire to lead a fulfill lifestyle.
