The issue of media getting nostalgic and using plenty of cliches has become an increasingly important topic in recent years. While some believe that the media is using contemporary digital tools to innovate, I completely agree that it has become increasingly nostalgic and unoriginal. This essay will discuss why the modern media rely on proven ideas and avoid taking risks.
First of all, modern media is having a hard time coming up with original ideas. The main reason for this is that modern media is afraid of risks and relies on more proven formulas than innovation. An example can be mass and social media using clickbait to catch readers’ attention when providing news or the movie industry uses proven plots, such as haunted house or AI takeover, instead of creative storylines.
Secondly, most media industries rely on past success and are afraid of taking risks. This is because the more they remake old movies or sequels instead of new ideas, the more they guarantee success. Not only does this interrupt creativity and originality, but it also aims to attract old fans instead of gaining a new audience. A clean example of this is Disney Studios, which remade classical movies such as Mermaid, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that modern media platforms use proven ideas and are far from originality. I believe this is because of the fear of taking risks and trying to sell nostalgia.
