Nowadays, technology has been continuously developing to the stage of space exploration, and even searching for life on other planets. This raises the debate whether it is worth it or not for the government to spend so much money on looking for life beyond the Earth. This essay will examine the advantages of both sides.
Firstly, some people think that the discovery of life on other planets could also mean the discovery of a new source of similar resources we have on Earth. For a planet to support lifes, it needs to have a goldilock environment which is similar to our current environment and possibly resources. Furthermore, one of those life-supporting planets could be a new habitable place for us, where the air isn’t much different from what we normally breathe. It might actually be the destination for humans to escape from a world-ending disaster and continue to thrive.
In contrast, when it comes to projects which involve space exploration, it always is very expensive. The cost to build and launch a rocket, along with the amount of people needed to control it, are dramatically huge. Additionally, we already have environmental problems that could pose a great risk towards humanity in the near future. For instance, global warming would eventually be the cause of extinction of many species and the rise in water levels. The money spent on space exploration could instead go to research of green energy which could effectively slow down the rise of global temperatures.
To conclude, discovery of other-worldly life can lead to a new source of resources or a new habitable planet while the money spent on the stated operation could preferably be invested on clean energy instead. Personally, I would prefer the government to focus more on supporting renewable energy.
