There are many prisoners who have transformed into good citizens after serving sentences which makes some people believe that they can warn the younger generation about violating laws. Crime education is of paramount importance in any country, but the way it can be conducted is often a subject of debate in society. While I agree that allowing reformed prisoners to have a talk to school students to be conscious of the dangers of crimes, I also believe there are better alternatives to this issue, which will be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, I agree that students would be more persuaded by the experiences from ex-crimimals about the consequences of engaging in criminal activities. Their vivid life stories can often attract the attention of students readily. These ex-offenders are real example that people have to pay for their unlawful activities and about the meloncholy of being imprisoned and isolated from freedom. For example, few years ago, a woman who had been sentenced for 3 years gave a talk in my school about the sufferings her family and loved ones wentthrough. I assure that, it had a great impact during my teenage proving that narrative form of crime education can work.
On the other hand, I reckon that combination of different educational methods would produce a more beneficial outcome compared to a talk by a former prisoner. First and foremost, parents should engage in the role of being a trailblazer to educate about social evils and how to evade them. In addition, teachers at schools also play a vital role in raising awareness about crime to students through ethical teachings and positive environment contributing to crime prevention. Lastly, each society has their own prestigious law enforcement system to provide legal awareness to students which is more effective than leading from former prisoner.
It can be concluded that, despite certain advantages, rehabilitated offenders cannot be an effective mentors of crime education.
