It is believed that single-gender schools are a good option for the learning process, while others think that boys and girls may benefit more if they study together. Although studying among the representatives of the same sex may help focusing on education, this essay would argue that children may have more opportunities to develop their communicative skills.
On the one hand, to be taught in a single-gender school is a chance to excel academically. Some people think that distraction on children of another sex may badly impact on studying results of teenagers, especially in a pubertal period. Moreover, learning among representatives of the same gender might reduce the number of possible gender-based conflicts. For example, there are a lot of oriental countries where such type of school is considered as the only one possible. However, I would disagree that this may really improve the abilities of children to learn because the lion’s share of success depends on a person themselves, not their surroundings.
On the other hand, studying together helps both girls and boys to develop their social skills. When children cooperate in one school, they are taught to communicate with each other; this may lead to their ability to interact with different people successfully in the future despite their sex. In addition, mixed schools teach children to be ready for the variety of situations that might happen in their future life. For instance, women who studied in such schools are more likely to be competitive among men at their workplaces and make their voices heard. I take the view that studying together not only does not distract children from the learning process, but provides them with vital social skills.
In conclusion, although to be taught in separate schools may lead to better concentration on educational outcomes, it still deprives children of their chance to early socialization.
