Some people argue that fashion industry pushes people to buy more clothes, and this has negative consequences on the environment. I agree with this statement, because I truly believe that lots of cloth pollute nature and fashion industry, that impacts society through social media, is responsible for that.
First, environment is highly polluted by clothes. Norwegian scientists have discovered that more than 30% of wastes is cloth made of synthetic fabrics. Synthetics is the material that happens to be uncomfortable to wear for a long period, because it loses its quality over time. Consequently, people throw it out after a month of usage. Additionally, nowadays, mass-market brands produce more and more fast-fashion products that will end up in dump after trend is over.
Second, fashion industry advertisement has an immeasurable effect on humans and their buys. The survey conducted by World Bank results shows that half of buys were made after seeing an advert. Knowing this, fashion companies publish their fast-fashioned cloth in social media, through target or influencers. Hence, this leads to unfortunate big number of impulse buys, that is not needed. Also, such fashion companies do not give advices to people how to manage their wardrobe or live sustainable, without harm to nature; but I thint that they should do that to prevent consumerism.
In conclusion, producing low-quality items, firms enhance the amount of waste. From my perspective, fashion companies are responsible for the Earth’s pollution, because they sponsor fast-fashion in such amounts, that can not be consumed by current population of humans.
