In recent years, obtaining a university degree plays an integral role in both people’s personal and professional life. Some believe that school leavers should travel or work for certain period of time before applying for university. This essay will discuss both benefits and drawbacks of getting a period gap before studying at university.
To begin with, postponing a university life offers several advantages, with gaining experience being the most significant. Students who study at university usually spend 6-7 hours a day in order to meet deadlines and pass exams. In other words, people who put off getting a university degree often have more leisure time for self-improvement. For example, they can work in different field, travel or even do volunterary work to get extra knowledge. Additionally, for those who have financial hardships, delaying a university life is also beneficial. Taking one-year gap, for instance, can be enough to earn money for tuition or getting a scholarship by studying harder during that period.
Nevertheless, putting of studying at university also provides some negative aspects. The major drawback is putting a person into a comfort zone. In fact, a university degree serves as guarantee for getting a high-paid job. Without a degree, individuals are more likely to work passively even for low amount of salary. Over time, they may get used to this passive work and lose interest to study further.
