It is true that the efficiency of different teaching techniques has long been hotly debated. While it is a common practice for some students to focus on the basic range of subjects in the curricula, others put emphasis on selected ones. This essay will discuss advantages of each method and argue on why I favor the former.
On the one hand, there are students who put equal amount of effort into acquiring all the subjects. The foremost reason why it is so beneficial is how much it broadens horizons of the learners. Having knowledge not only in the field that these individuals get involved in later on, but also regarding numerous different aspects of life, makes those people great companions. It enables them to get involved in any types of conversations, which can also result in widening their personal connections by becoming friends with people from various spheres.
There are, however, those who choose focusing on limited subjects. The main reason for this is that the process of learning is time-consuming, and this way, children could save both time and energy for obtaining the skills that they plan on using further in their professional careers. For instance, someone who desires of becoming a diplomat, according to this approach, would no longer spare time for such subjects as chemistry or biology. Instead, that individual could do his best in order to master his understanding of history or geopolitics, which could make him become one of the strongest diplomats of his time.
However, my personal opinion is that regardless of the time-saving advantage of studying only the areas students favor or are good at, they should be focusing on a general range of school subjects. This way, they become more aware of the reality that surrounds them, giving them an opportunity to see situations from different angles.
In conclusion, although ideas differ as it comes to teaching methodologies, I am a strong supporter of the one that considers focusing on the whole range of subjects as it is more practical and sensible.
