In this day and age, students are advised to take a gap year after finishing tertiary education to travel abroad or take up a job. While it is believed that taking a gap year can be beneficial to the pupil’s personal satisfaction, there are still drawbacks related to this problem.
On the one hand, a gap year is an ideal opportunity for students to learn about what is not taught at university. Working with other people who are experts in different fields can give these newcomers not only an understanding of the job but also valuable practical lessons to help them become more mature. When it comes to applying for a company, the employers tend to prioritize the applicants with more professional background as their employee. Furthermore, in terms of recreation, having a year to relax can be advantageous as students can have a chance to relieve stress in study. With a comfortable and willing attitude, undergraduates can acquire knowledge more effectively in comparison with those who go to university right away.
On the other hand, young students are very likely to encounter serval difficulties when delaying their study. The disadvantage of going on a vacation, and not seeking university admission immediately after graduating from high school might decrease the chance of getting an admit for students. This is because the universities assume that an individual would forget the fundamental concepts which they have learnt in previous years at school if they would have a gap-year in their resume.
In conclusion, while youngsters may face difficultly in terms of landing a seat in a reputed institute, many have a mindset that delaying their admission will help them gain knowledge while rejuvenating themselves.
