Recently, people who have graduated high school tend to take a gap year to carry out their new plans such as travel or probation instead of going to university. From my point, advantages will overshadow its advantages for the following chief reason.
It is undeniable that this tendency has some demerits, putting off compared to peers is that primary reason. After a year of traveling, they have just entered the university gate. However, they may face a lack of academic focus since their learning might be hindered by self-consciousness and social pressure, especially when their classmates have already adjusted to the university atmosphere. The absence of desire to resume learning is a contributing factor. Graduating high school marks the transition for kids from a protected environment to exploring new and exciting opportunities such as employment and travel, which may evoke a sense of enthusiasm and excitement. Consequently, adolescents are often enticed by financial incentives and entertainment outside the confines of society, leading many to completely forsake their aspirations of pursuing higher education.
However, I still hold the opinion that this trend’s upside is much more significant than its downsides. It is a significant milestone towards living independently. This is because working or traveling will be a solitary experience without the guidance and direction provided by mentors, as is the case at university. Consequently, students acquire the skills to effectively manage and resolve whatever challenges they face. For example, those who engage in part-time employment, such as serving or managing roles, are certain to confront challenging consumers. Under such circumstances, via accumulated expertise, individuals will progressively acquire the ability to efficiently manage situations, enabling customers to regain composure and enjoy contentment. Secondly, that is a golden time to work to make money for difficult students. Pursuing a university degree incurs significant costs, making it financially challenging for many individuals. Consequently, that single year has assisted them in achieving financial stability after enrolling in university, resulting in less difficulties. Finally, there will be valuable lessons for them. Entering the expansive world entails encountering individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and environments, which serve to enhance one’s perspective and outlook on life. For instance, individuals originating from Western nations discern the immense disparity between the affluent and the impoverished. They then form their own opinions and conclusions regarding the discrimination in society.
In conclusion, notwithstanding the demerits, this trend merits are far more remarkable for some points that have just been mentioned and analyzed above.
