At the moment, many countries are witnessing an uprising trend, where people in rural areas are moving to the cities, which result in countryside population decreasing. From my point of view, although there are concerns about overpopulation and pollution, a positive development is still visible with opportunities that can improve citizens’ life quality.
The main reason that makes more people decide to settle a life in urban areas is coming from occupations. Opportunities in dense population areas are plenty, along with a particular career path, and higher income, which persuades a handful of people to move to cities. For example, to work with international businesses and corporations which are most located in urban areas. Another reason that convinces individuals to have a city life is facilities improvement. Living in big cities means there are more options, for example, children’s education, entertainment or healthcare services are way better compared to rural areas. As a result, citizens’ life quality will be significantly improved by better facilities.
On the other hand, there are still concerns about life in big cities. One reason that is how overpopulation creates massive pressure on facilities. In many cities, the population is far from facilities’ capacity. Many policymakers are finding solutions to expand cities, but fell short due to lack of funding. For instance, encourage more citizens to live in suburb areas is a doable option to reduce the population density. One other reason that can directly affect people who live in cities is pollution. With an increase in newcomers, traffic will be more crowded, and more gas will be emitted, which makes the air quality become worse over time.
To conclude, although there are challenges towards cities’ capacity and its environment, having a city life will bring more positive development in overall, with more opportunities and a chance to improve life quality, in my opinion.
