Band 6+: Spending money on space exploration is often seen as unncecessary when there are problems on Earth that need solving. Discuss both sides of this argument and give your own viewpoint.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

These days, some individuals claim that space exploration is unnecessary since there are various urgent issues that exist on Earth, which require immediate address. From my perspective, although I acknowledge the importance of extraterrestrial exploration, I still believe that resources and efforts should be concentrated on tackling problems on our own planet.

On the one hand, encouraging space exploration can bring back significant benefits, chief among those is the facilitation of innovations in technology. For instance, allocating sufficient funds on space exploration will foster great inventions in computer technology, intergalactic travel, nanotechnology, robotics, etc. in designing the necessary equipment to do so. As a result, implementing such innovations on Earth may potentially bring back considerable advancements across various fields. Consequently, this may help increase the living standards on our home planet.

Nevertheless, I am convinced that efforts and sufficient allocations should be concentrated on addressing urgent issues. The first reason is that these problems are currently affecting our lives on Earth. To be specific, global issues, such as climate change and poverty are remarkably decreasing our living standards, and threatening human existence on the planet. Therefore, focusing efforts on solving such matters is the top requirement to ensure humanity’s future. Furthermore, we are now lacking the necessary equipment to successfully and efficiently explore the universe. For instance, building and launching spacecraft into orbit, or even further, require a significant amount of allocations and materials, which is not a cost-effective approach to space exploration. Although, in the far future, more efficient space-travel technology will be invented, extraterrestrial exploration is deemed impractical at the present.

In conclusion, while encouraging the exploration of outer space can be beneficial as it fosters innovations across various scientific fields, they are deemed impractical in the present day. Therefore, I contend that it is more vital to allocate sufficient funds on addressing urgent issues on Earth that are currently threatening humanity, such as climate change and poverty.
