With the advancements in many aspects of life, the need for healthy well-being and a restful mind is growing nowadays, and one of the most effective ways to facilitate this is doing sports. However, sports also have some drawbacks for players.
Admittedly, there are several underlying reasons why I hold the view that playing sports is sometimes not a good idea. Chief of these is the physical aspect, with intense workout routines, people can easily get injuries, such as broken legs or strokes, which are threatening to their life. For example, professional athletes, especially soccer or gymnastics with tight training schedules are vulnerable to these injuries. Although some physical traumas can easily recover after the competition, mental damage can leave lasting symptoms when the athlete is unable to earn a prize. In other words, they can suffer criticism from the public, causing psychological illnesses such as depression or anxiety making the player demoralized and stopping their career.
Conversely, some people put forth more compelling reasons to believe that sports play a significant role in promoting physical and mental well-being, and I also agree with them. The key reason is that doing sports can help people maintain a stable fitness level. This is extremely helpful for young people, especially the obese ones who want a healthy and fit body. Moreover, sports can improve mental health, notably facilitating players to be more energetic and motivated to complete other tasks, such as work or studies. Therefore, nowadays, sports are also used as therapy for disadvantaged patients to be more optimistic, happy and satisfied, helping them more effectively in the recovery process.
In conclusion, I partly agree with the statement that sports play a significant role in promoting physical and mental well-being. Some of the reasons why I hold this view include physical damage and cognitive damage, a fit body and a healthy soul.
