Some people believe that students should learn a second language, while others think that they should not.. I will discuss both views and share my opinion.
These days, many people learn other languages. Knowing a second language can open doors to global job markets and lead to higher salaries.. It helps students understand different cultures, promoting tolerance and communication. Knowing multiple languages makes travel easier and helps build connections worldwide. Studies show that students who learn a second language perform better in other subjects like math and reading. Learning another language enhances overall communication, even in one’s native language.
On the other hand, learning a second language requires a lot of time and effort, which could be spent on other subjects or skills. Some languages have complex grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, making them hard to learn. Learning a new language might temporarily affect fluency and accuracy in the native language. If the second language is not commonly spoken or used in daily life, students may forget it over time. Adding another language to the curriculum can increase stress and workload for students. Some schools may not have qualified teachers or proper learning materials, making language learning ineffective. If students are not interested or see no immediate benefit, they may struggle to stay motivated and engaged.
