Students in university should be specialized in one subject rather than to develop a wider range of knowledge in many different subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is commonly recognized that university students are supposed to focus on a single major instead of studying many different subjects. I currently insist that students should concentrate on a specific major.
On the one hand, some people claim that it is vital for university students to pay great effort to study and pass their final examinations each academic term. Although this task is tricky to do due to the high level of difficulty of each subject, as a result, each graduated student is professional and ethical in his or her different major field, particularly doctors, teachers, and engineers. In addition, expanding students’ scopes of knowledge in many different majors might lead to several negative consequences. For example, stressful workload, risky graduation processes, and unclear future career paths.
On the other hand, others believe that learning a wide range of different subjects is effectively beneficial for students to have more job opportunities and achieve more skills. For instance, multi-skilled employees are required by many careers. These days, undeniably, they will achieve well-paid jobs much more effortlessly. Furthermore, studying a variety of subjects helps students discover new interests and passions, which can provide them with a sense of fulfillment and achievement. Additionally, enhanced social skills will be developed due to different forms of communication with different people, which can efficiently enrich the diversity of personal perspectives.
In conclusion, although studying multiple subjects can develop the capabilities of creativity and innovation, unfortunately, I still insist that it is tough and time-consuming for students to invest their precious study time and energy in many subjects.
