Some people believe that sending criminals to prison is not effective while education and job training is the best methods for addressing the crime activites. In my opinion, I disagree with this statement for various reasons.
Admittedly, education and job training are more effective than incarceration. Firstly, supporting in improving individual’s finances such as education and job training can help reduce crime. For example, steal cases in atractive tourist destination are mainly caused by poverty, is solved by offering study and work opportunity. This is because education and job training bring them have a stable salary, thereby reducing steal cases in tourist spot. Secondly, the lielihood of reoffending may occur after release. Isolating from relatives and neighborhood deters former offenders from reintegration, leading to unemployment and consequently causing to commit again illegal activities.
However, education and job training are not always effective. Firstly, the consequences of incarcerating in local prison is more heavily than other alternative methods. This is because they could pass on advantage in compared to general publics, such as freedom loss and difficulty in career path, while education and job training help them easy to comeback public. Therefore, they may become repeat offender. Secondly, having strongly desire for wealth along with lack of patience is a key to commit unlawful activities. Education and job training require a lot of effort to have final benefits such as stable jobs and salary while illegal activities bring them short term financial gain, thereby not solving these crimes by education and job training.
In conclusion, although the opportunity of study and job training is the best method to eliminate crime rate, I believe that incarceration is effective because of the heavy inevitable outcome and their mindset.
