Band 6+: Task 2 Essay: Luck (NEW) Question: Whether or not someone achieves their aims is mostly a question of luck. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many people believe that luck plays a vital role in attaining one’s goal. However, I firmly believe that patience and hard work are crucial in achieving success.

While I acknowledge that luck contributes to some people’s achievements, it is not the primary factor. To begin with, people that born with a silver spoon are most likely to succeed because they have access to the best education that promises a great career. They are fortunate enough to start a business or secure a stable job with ease. In contrast, relying solely on luck without patience and perseverance often leads to failure.

On the other hand, perseverance and patience are the factors that contribute to the success of an individual. For instance, to become a teacher, one must complete a four-year bachelor’s college degree, which involves studying the theories of education and learning effective teaching strategies. Additionally, aspiring teachers undergo a semester of student teaching, where they apply their skills in real classroom settings without pay. The learning process doesn’t stop after graduation, as it needs to pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers to become a fully-fledged teachers. These steps require dedication and perseverance rather than luck. In similar, other professions, such as engineers, and scientist needs the same level of commitment. Scientists, for instance, don’t apply luck to make magnificent discoveries like Thomas Edison he failed 1000 times before successfully creating the first light bulb that changed the world. He also quoted that those 1000 times are not failures but rather lessons to come up with great work.

In conclusion, I do believe in the saying that “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. Luck is nothing without hard work so my stand is to work hard and luck will come at the right time.
