It is argued that more public holidays should be added to the calendar for more convenience, while some people debate that it will affect productivity. I believe that more holidays provide good family time, but they also diminish the nation’s productivity and have drawbacks on education. This essay will discuss both views and give reasons for my view.
On one hand, if the calendar provides more days off, everyone can spend their valuable time with families, since the modern world does not allow people much time to spend with family. This is because an individual’s strong family time, a tight bond with their children and parents, enhances the quality of life. According to research conducted by Cambridge University, the group of people who spent extended time with their families had better health results in health screenings than people who spent less time with their families. Therefore, increasing the number of annual public holidays strengthens family bonds and improves health.
On the other hand, days off will reduce working hours and significantly drop production. Moreover, workplace routines and expected outcomes will be adversely affected due to employees’ obtaining these public holidays. As well as, in education, students are more likely to stay home, and their minds will not be inclined to engage with study materials. Due to these continuous interruptions, adverse effects on schoolchildren will result, such as laziness in studies and low grades on examinations.
In conclusion, adding extra public holidays allows for the development of good family bonds, but this will limit workplace productivity and reduce students’ learning time. Therefore, I believe an adequate number of public holidays is better to maintain a balance between family, education, and work life
