Today’s ever-changing world demands learning individuals to be efficient in their majors, highly skilled, and make analytical decisions to succeed in their professional lives. Although, many individuals believe that universities should emphasize building futuristic skills in their students, however, the other group criticizes and advises giving precedence to critical and intellectual abilities. This essay will discuss both views and will offer my perspective.
On the one hand, universities play a significant role in shaping the student’s identity by offering them principal knowledge of the subject, and essential industrial-related and technical skills required to gain a desired job. Students must engage in university conferences, workshops, and seminars to learn real insights into the current business world through professional speakers. It allows them to become work-ready as soon as they complete their degree. Furthermore, the short courses often arranged by the universities to deliver high-demand skills such as Artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and graphic designing allow individuals to attain part-time remote employment where they can offer their services flexibly and work as freelancers. Consequently, this initial experience enhances their living standards and lowers their financial burden.
On the other hand, it is argued that universities must emphasize enhancing critical thinking and intellectual curiosity among students. These traits are significant in developing an analytical mindset that is required to succeed in every aspect of life. Universities can revitalize their assessment methods by offering practical assignments that require a keen interest as well as an inquisitive approach to solving the case. This is fundamental to surpass in life-long situations.
To reiterate, although universities should emphasize critical thinking and intellectual curiosity to engage students in learning and enhance their abilities, nevertheless I largely believe that they should comprehensively focus on enhancing the skills of their students. The present digitalized world has a huge demand for highly skilled employees who possess innovative and technical skills. Therefore, focusing on skills development will assist students in attaining a desired job swiftly after their graduation.
