The modern day has witnessed some drastic alterations to our environment, especially from the comsumer industry. While some people believe that manufacturers and distributors should reduce packaging, others argue that consumers should refrain from purchasing products with unnecessary packaging. Although both views have their own points, I will discuss them in favor of the latter.
On the one hand, companies should be more practical and mindful when it comes to delivering their products. They can encourage the use of totes and other reusable form of carriage in their customers. As a result, the company will be able to minimize packaging expenses, as well as grow towards a more sustainable business. A great example is Aeon – a big group of supermarkets – which encourage consumers to bring their own bags by discounts and offers.
On the other hand, it is also the customers’ responsibility to refrain from products with excessive packaging. Consumers can bring their own bags when they go shopping, which subsequently removes the need for packaged products. Though this might not be financially rewarding for the customers, it can instill in them a sense of preservation and responsibity. However, it should be taken in mind that those efforts from individual customers are very minimum in a grander scale.
In conclusion, although customers can refrain from packaged products by bringing their own shopping bags, it should be the company’s responsiblity to utilitze and minimize packaging in the manufacturing and distribution of their products
