My love for piano was sparked at an early age in the stands of a piano concert. On the ride home, I demanded that my parents sign me up for piano lessons and since then, it has been a defining part of how friends and family view me today: someone who learns from failure and strives towards their goals with resilience.
Piano shaped my perseverance. Three years ago, I had the opportunity to perform a piano piece I had been working on for over three months in front of a large crowd. At first, everything seemed to flow smoothly, despite being nervous about stepping onto the stage. However, as I neared the final lines of the piece, the room was filled with silence. It was a defeating moment, knowing that my memorization had failed me even after the hours I had spent practicing. As I sat back into my seat with disappointment, an organizer pulled me aside to offer me a second chance. Though I wasn’t obligated to perform again, I knew that I owed it to myself to try. Stepping on stage for a second time, I decided to play with even more courage than before. This time, I finished the piece, and although it wasn’t perfect, I was proud.
This experience taught me resilience, not just in music but in all aspects of my life. I became someone who understands that hard work and determination are the two underlying keys to success, reminding me that my resilience stems from the many times I’ve failed.
