Band 7+: The availability of entertainment such as video games on handheld devices is harmful to individuals and to the society they live in. To what extent do you agree and disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary era, the proliferation of various technologies has undeniably simplified and enhanced our lives. However, it is imperative to acknowledge that every coin has two sides—beneficial and adverse. Therefore, I concur with the notion that the widespread availability of video games on handheld devices poses potential harm to individuals and the societies in which they reside.

Handheld devices, such as smartphones, offer unparalleled convenience and serve as indispensable tools for communication and entertainment. While these devices cater to various needs, including accessing music and videos, the increasing trend of gaming addiction presents a concerning downside. It is my belief that recreational activities are integral to a fulfilling life, yet when entertainment interferes with one’s well-being and productivity, it becomes a detrimental force.

The escalating prevalence of gaming addiction is evident in the sedentary lifestyles and diminished civil interactions prevalent in today’s society. Excessive reliance on handheld games fosters inertia and diminishes motivation for physical activities or real-world communal engagements. This disengagement from reality not only impedes personal growth on the contrary also hampers social bonds, potentially leading to feelings of isolation and detachment from one’s community.

Furthermore, the all-consuming nature of handheld gaming can culminate in hazardous behaviors, such as playing games while engaged in other activities like walking or eating. This preoccupation with virtual experiences detracts from one’s ability to focus on essential tasks, be it at work or in educational pursuits. Consequently, the neglect of responsibilities and disconnection from familial and social relationships erode the fabric of society, leaving individuals isolated and unfulfilled.

In conclusion, it is imperative for individuals to exercise moderation in their screen time usage and refrain from succumbing to the allure of technology-driven entertainment. By striking a balance between virtual pastimes and real-life interactions, one can cultivate a harmonious lifestyle that prioritizes genuine connections with loved ones. Ultimately, the key lies in embracing the richness of genuine human experiences and fostering meaningful relationships beyond the confines of digital indulgence.
