According to the bar chart, women have higher illiteracy rates than men across all regions. The difference is espeically promenent in Arab states and countries in South Asia. In these two regions, more than half of the women can’t read, while the male illiteracy rates are between 25% to 40%. Among all regions, South Asia has the highest illiteracy rate, with more than 30% of its male population can’t read and more than 50% of its female population are illiterate. Meanwhile, people in the developed world are the least illeterate.
This graph demostrates that illiteracy is still a serious problem in many parts of the world. The world should invest more resources into the education in less developed countries. We should also focus more on reducing illiteracy of females to reduce the gender gap between men and women in these countries.
