There is a claim that in order to decrease traffic jam, governments must supply free public transportation that serves people 24/7. I completely disagree and I will expand my opinion in the following paragraphs.
I express that there are several cheap alternatives that can tackle the issue of traffic congestion. Nowadays, there are a lot of personal vehicles in cities and this number of vehicles equals to serious traffic problems. I think governments should establish more tax on buying vehicles to reduce the number of personal cars. In other words, due to high tax on purchasing a car people tend to buy personal vehicles less than before and a smaller number of cars equals to less traffic jam. For instance, tax revenue on personal cars in Poland is quite high and this law leads cities of Poland into experiencing less traffic problems because there are not much personal vehicles in this country.
I believe that there are some other strategies to deal with traffic jam in cities. Firstly, governments should expand roads and build more roads to contain more cars without experiencing traffic issues. Secondly, doing work repairs during days can cause additional traffic problems, so, local governments should do these repairs during night hours. For example, in my city, there is a new law to have all of road repairs at nights in order to prevent traffic congestion. This law pays off very well and now we experience less traffic. Finally, as a fact, utilizing motorcycles causes less traffic than cars. Governments can channel people into buying motorcycles rather than cars in order to prevent more traffic congestion.
In conclusion, there is an opinion that providing free 24/7 public transportation can be an answer to traffic jam. I totally disagree with the idea because it costs a lot and I think there are some other options to deal with this issue.
