It is a common belief that reading books is the most efficient approach to learn about other countries. I completely disagree with this view because I would contend that traveling is a more comprehensive one.
The first argument given to support my opinion is that the knowledge from books may be limited and unreliable. Many books are written from the author’s personal perspective. Most travelers, who are passionate about nature, are not able to detail how fascinating active activities are. On the other hand, some kinds of books may be published according to the government wishes or market requirements. This leads to most knowledge people gain from these books is what the author wants to tell.
Another reason worth mentioning is that unlike books, traveling helps people view the world with their own eyes. By embarking on a journey, many travelers have a chance to immerse themselves in its culture. This can foster a deeper understanding by taking part in culture festivals, enjoying the local foods or arts. For instance, the travelers would have a vivid experience by eating Vietnamese vendor street food if they could enjoy the food taste and crowded surroundings in Vietnam. It is intriguing and memorable when people can connect and interact with local residents. As a result, they could find it is an enjoyable experience when they have a home stay tour.
In conclusion, while I understand that books can be a part of information sources, I strongly believe that reading books is not the best way to learn about other countries, because the knowledge from books could be not diverse and trustworthy and traveling helps people broaden their horizons deeply.
