Parents are the first teachers’ people have in our lives in most cases. It is believed that to alleviate the criminality in the youth, teaching parents to parental skills is considered a possible approach. From my perspective, I totally agree that this approach is an effective method to lower the crime rate among adolescence.
Parental skills boost parents with the great patience and the important knowledge that children need to become good citizens in our modern society. Children often imitate their parents’ habits and traits therefore family background deeply influence how children express their individual personalities and how they recognise the moral values. Many young offenders come from difficult backgrounds, where lack of education, parental caring and poverty. This could bring about a situation where there is an increasing number of juvenile thieves who come to shopping centres or small stores to commit an offense.
Moreover, pre-adulthood is a period when children learn from their peers rather than from their parents. Their behaviours are affected on both negative and positive peer pressure, they remain confused to distinguish between right and wrong behaviour, even well-parented children. At this stage, many teenagers tend to refuse their parents’ advices and warnings. They begin to explore the world by their own experiences and make their own decisions, which can cause their first mistakes. This means the supportive and patient are the key aspects for parents to educate their children during this sensitive period.
In conclusion, educating parents with parental skills is the cornerstone in forming children’s attitudes and ethics, which bring law-abiding individuals into our modern life.
