Due to affordability and access to junk food, obesity has become one of the most pressing issues in the aspect of human health. However, while I agree that educating about a healthy diet has a huge impact on society, I definitely think that there is a better treatment for the disease.
On the one hand, it is crucial to teach people about the importance of keeping a balanced diet, since many show only a superficial understanding of it. Sometimes, if an individual does not suffer from physical discomfort, he or she will most likely choose an easy path, and follow a diet that their parents and grandparents had been sticking to for many years, without exploring up-to-date scientific discoveries, as well as the effect of different products on human life processes. That is why it is much simpler and easier to include healthy eating in the school curriculum to instill healthy eating habits from childhood.
However, despite the influence of education, I believe that there is another approach which might solve the problem of obesity even more effectively. These days, many are exposed to stress, some are inclined to emotional eating, turning to food for comfort and stress relief, which may lead to gaining a lot of excessive weight without noticing that. The solution can be a compulsory psychological counselling once a week, where an individual learns how to stop bottling up their emotions and accept them instead, even in situations when it hurts a lot. By doing that, people may become more emotionally intelligent and learn how to practice mindful eating.
In conclusion, teaching people about a balanced diet may be helpful, however, in many cases, it may not be not the best solution. I strongly believe that having sessions with a therapist can have a greater impact on people suffering from obesity.
