Tourism is believed to be the reason for English being widespread and some groups of individuals deem that it might lead English to be only one language in the world. Well, it has both positive effects and negative aspects at the same time.
The main benefit is communication becoming easier and more convenient, because, if all people speak a single language, it would make social interaction easier and more understandable, especially for students due to their struggling with acquisition of materials in different languages. Moreover, it would be simpler for them to participate in an exchange program. For instance, there is an exchange program for high schoolers that gives the opportunity to live as a high school student in the USA and expands visions of youth from Central Asia about the world and it is called FLEX. It is a competitive program that requires only good knowledge of English and well-written motivational essays. Therefore, if English became a single language in the world, it would open a door for a bright future for most of the population.
However, it also has its drawbacks such as a lack of cultural diversity inasmuch as a culture is directly connected with language and it makes each nation unique. If one language becomes dominant, it will cause the death of history, traditions and cultural identity. For example, there is Greece, which is the most ancient country that exists due to its unique language and culture. If English became a single language in the world, the oldest countries such as Greece would lose their cultural individuality. Hence, it is better that there is no particular dominant language.
In conclusion, if one language was dominant, communication tools would be more accessible. Additionally, it would give big opportunities to the young generations to expand their visions. On the other hand, it would cause the elimination of cultural identities of countries and nations that have huge backgrounds and history.
