There is indisputable evidence that casual use of materials that are made from plastic may negatively impact the environment. Although serious problems have arisen as a result of plastic overuse, there are solutions.
One of the primary issues of abundant plastic usage is that it harms the aquatic animals that live in the oceans or seas. On the grounds that numerous marine animals mistake plastic for food, ingesting sharp plastic materials can cut their organs and cause internal bleeding. As a result, many species get critically wounded and lose their ability to repopulate. To tackle this issue, plastic package-providing institutions or companies could replace plastic with paper. Consequently, swallowed paper would not cause internal damage to aquatic animals. For instance, the fast-food restaurant “McDonald’s” replaced plastic straws used for soft drinks with paper straws to reduce the damage it caused to turtles that mistakenly inhaled them.
Another problem is that plastic production releases significant amounts of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide or methane. Mentioned by-products absorb the sun’s heat that radiates from the Earth’s surface and keeps the temperature of the planet warmer. As a consequence, the shelters of abundant wildlife become uninhabitable and endangered species disappear. A way to deal with this problem is to increase the price of plastic bags in local shops or supermarkets to reduce the demand for its manufacture. For example, grocery stores in Lithuania made every plastic bag cost one euro cent. Hence, natives started bringing bags from their homes more frequently, reducing the need for plastic bag production.
In conclusion, the overuse of plastic materials causes significant damage to marine animals and makes endangered species disappear. The most suitable solutions are to replace plastic packages with paper ones and increase the prices of plastic bags in local shops.
